About To Create a Storm in the UK

InstaGraham is a Pro Wrestling Alliance (PWA) tag team champ and about to further his career in the UK.  Like Charli Evans, who I photographed recently, he is another fierce Pro Wrestler off to make a mark overseas.  This Hipster is spreading the love… of coffee and selfies!

Having now shot two Pro Wrestlers and been at a match, I am so impressed with their passion and dedication to the sport.  The training, the costumes, the theatre, the guts it takes to put yourself in the ring and test yourself is really inspiring.

Best withes in the UK InstaGraham!

Fight like a girl

Don’t be fooled, this girl can throw you across the room before you know what’s hit you.

Charli Evans is currently the PWWA (Pro Wrestling Women’s Alliance) Champion.

Recently I had the privilege of shooting Charli Evans and another Pro Wrestler, InstaGraham – a crazy, fun, high energy morning.  Charli Evans is touring the US soon and will no doubt show why the Aussies are a force to be reckoned with.

My job as a photographer is to create photographs that my clients love.  But more than that, I want them to have a fabulous time being photographed – to enjoy the experience – those 2 hours dressed up on a hot crowded day at the beach!  Quite a challenge at times.

I had the privilege of photographing this lovely family on a very warm afternoon among crowds of beach goers.  We carved out pockets of calm and laughed and ignored the onlookers.  With their oldest on the cusp of finishing high school, they wanted to record family time together.  Amidst the noise, we captured some fun and quiet moments.

Thank you for spending your time with me.

The image that stays with you

It is often said that a PR shot stays with you forever, so you better make it a good one.

I had the fabulous privilege of shooting some PR shots for Gavin McLeod – to announce his appointment as Executive Creative Director for the San Francisco office of AKQA.  The image needed to fit with the style and feel of previous AQKA profile and PR shots, but with its own unique spin.

Gavin, AQKA and I were completely thrilled with the final image – an image worthy of being stuck to!

Dream Kitchen

It is not every day you get to re-invent your kitchen.  In fact, it is probably a once in a life time thing.  We were lucky enough to have that opportunity.  The after is so much better than the before.

Gone are the days of checked carpet, bench tops at knee height, yellow flakey paint, no bench space and a fridge in the next room.

With the help of Dave at The Kitchen Maker, we created this gorgeous space.

Our favourite part is the custom glass photograph splash back.  It is an image I captured a few years ago while we were holidaying in our favourite spot in the Blue Mountains.  Mark wrote in sparkler while the kids directed and I shot.

It makes me smile every time I see it and reminds me of family and good times.

More than a house

That is especially true for the lovely family I had the pleasure of capturing yesterday.  Their house is their home and after seven years they are moving.  Before packing and leaving they wanted to create some images in their home, as a way of recording memories of a special place where their two young kids grew up.  It is also the home that they transformed with a beautiful renovation to make their own, melding the old with the new.  We took photos on the swing, in the tree, in the front yard, on the couch in the lounge and with the vertical garden as a backdrop.

The family had won a school fundraiser silent auction for a shoot with me.  So all the proceeds went to the school P&C.  Thank you for your generous contribution.  Here are just a few of the images I loved and wanted to share straight away.

These two never stopped giggling and smiling – sitting on their favourite swing.

A stake in the creative sand

Just start.  Just do something.  Take an action, any action.  Then keep going.

That is what my friend Angela did.  She is a wonderful and passionate artist, wife and mother to three gorgeous kids.  Her youngest is only 10 months.  She really wanted to take her art to the next level, to get out of her comfort zone and to put herself out there, in the world, in the public eye.

So Angela hired an empty shop space for 10 days and created a pop-up studio and gallery.  She was there every day painting and available to meet with and connect with people who visited her space.  She had conversations with them about her work, she asked them what they liked, what they were looking for, which images inspired them.  And she sold some work.

What Angela did was put a stake in the sand.  She booked the space then worked out everything she had to have ready for the opening of her gallery/studio.  She had a deadline that wasn’t going away.  It all came together and I told Angela how inspired I was by what she had accomplished.  She thanked me and said that my blog and progressing with my photography was one of the things that inspired her to take that step.  Ahhh, group hug!

I visited Angela in her studio one cold morning and took some photos to share with you all.  Please visit Angela at her website and her facebook page.  Many of the paintings you see below have been sold but she is working on a new series.  Not sure of the subject, but follow her to find out more.

IMG_6658.RIMG_6679.RWhat was so wonderful to see was Angela’s two daughters got involved. They were inspired by their mum to paint, exhibit and sell their own work too.  They achieved a tidy little sum.  So, go on, just start.  What is your first step?
