About To Create a Storm in the UK

InstaGraham is a Pro Wrestling Alliance (PWA) tag team champ and about to further his career in the UK.  Like Charli Evans, who I photographed recently, he is another fierce Pro Wrestler off to make a mark overseas.  This Hipster is spreading the love… of coffee and selfies!

Having now shot two Pro Wrestlers and been at a match, I am so impressed with their passion and dedication to the sport.  The training, the costumes, the theatre, the guts it takes to put yourself in the ring and test yourself is really inspiring.

Best withes in the UK InstaGraham!

Fight like a girl

Don’t be fooled, this girl can throw you across the room before you know what’s hit you.

Charli Evans is currently the PWWA (Pro Wrestling Women’s Alliance) Champion.

Recently I had the privilege of shooting Charli Evans and another Pro Wrestler, InstaGraham – a crazy, fun, high energy morning.  Charli Evans is touring the US soon and will no doubt show why the Aussies are a force to be reckoned with.

My job as a photographer is to create photographs that my clients love.  But more than that, I want them to have a fabulous time being photographed – to enjoy the experience – those 2 hours dressed up on a hot crowded day at the beach!  Quite a challenge at times.

I had the privilege of photographing this lovely family on a very warm afternoon among crowds of beach goers.  We carved out pockets of calm and laughed and ignored the onlookers.  With their oldest on the cusp of finishing high school, they wanted to record family time together.  Amidst the noise, we captured some fun and quiet moments.

Thank you for spending your time with me.

The image that stays with you

It is often said that a PR shot stays with you forever, so you better make it a good one.

I had the fabulous privilege of shooting some PR shots for Gavin McLeod – to announce his appointment as Executive Creative Director for the San Francisco office of AKQA.  The image needed to fit with the style and feel of previous AQKA profile and PR shots, but with its own unique spin.

Gavin, AQKA and I were completely thrilled with the final image – an image worthy of being stuck to!

The camera you have with you

I would love to say that I have my beautiful pro camera with me at all times to capture my view of life.  But it is simply not true.  I love my big DSLR, but practically, it is not the best every-day portable option.  It is big, heavy, and expensive.  Not something I want to leave behind at soccer or under a cafe chair or at the supermarket checkout.

That doesn’t mean I cant capture and record images on the go.  My phone does that.  And 99% of the time, that’s ok.  The best camera to use is the one you have with you.

We recently had a last minute weekend down at the beautiful Kangaroo Valley.  We played netball and basketball in the crazy wind just before the rain.  The light was gorgeous, my daughters clothes were bright, the ball was neon luminous and the wattle in beautiful bloom.  I couldn’t not record it.  Luckily my phone was in my pocket.  And with a little in-phone editing, on the walk home, I have a great image that reminds me of that wonderful weekend.

Your equipment means nothing, your vision is everything.

Bush Adventures

The girls and I spent 5 days in the bush near Bathurst with friends in a little piece of Aussie paradise.  As much as I think of myself as a coastal girl, the opportunity to be in the middle of ‘nowhere’ without another house or road or even the noise of a car, was just what I needed.  A 4WD would have been good, but that’s another story!

Four mums, nine kids, 2 dogs, sunshine, food and wine, a river, an evening fire, kayaks, bikes, hikes, goats, kangaroos and no snakes.

I am now able to jump start a car – also another story.

Something to celebrate

This week I had the absolute honour of photographing my wonderful niece in the moments before she left with her besties for her school formal. It was one very excited household full of family admiring the oldest cousin on the cusp of adulthood. My girls were in awe of their playmate and sometime babysitter. Over the yeas I have watched this lovely girl blossom into a beautiful, confident, generous, warm, funny and loyal young woman. I am so happy with these images that I took for her and her mum, capturing these special moments.
